Abstract
The purposes of this study were to explore daily stress of children attending child care centers. Subjects were 219 children at child care centers. They were recruited from five child-care centers in Gwangju. Children were interviewed individually using 22-item children¡¯s daily stress inventory with illustrations which describe certain stressful situations. The major findings were as follows : First, the overall average score of children¡¯s daily stress was 1.56, which is equivalent with median (1.5). ¡¯Blame and attack situation (1.67)¡¯ and ¡¯anxiety and frustrated situation (1.62)¡¯ were perceived as more stressful for the children than ¡¯lose self-respect situation (1.35)¡¯. Second, analyzing the children¡¯s emotion to the questions about children¡¯s daily stress, it was revealed that most children reported they were sad and angry under blame and attack situation. Compared anxious and frustrated situations, anxiety situation makes children more afraid and worried than frustrated situation. Especially when they saw the scene of their parents¡¯ quarreling, they felt sadness more than scare and anger. Their anger emotion occupied more territory of heart than others in frustrated situation. Sad or anger emotion was expressed similarly in losing their self-respect situation.
